My son is a few short weeks away from turning ten. TEN! Double digits! Eight years away from college!
It makes my head spin.
The upside to having a kid turning ten is that the hoopla of a big birthday party seems less appealing - fourth grade boys are good like that. I no longer have to invite the whole class to a laser tag party or fill goodie bags with crappy dollar store junk. Hallefreakinglujah.
This year he was perfectly happy to keep it low key when I suggested that he invite a friend (or two) to do something special, an outing, if you will. This morning, over burnt cinnamon toast and juice, I threw out some ideas to him.
Dinner in Boston? Rollerblading? A movie? Snow tubing?
He shrugged, unimpressed with my brainstorms.
(Ten is also the age where I am less and less cool despite my awesome singing voice)
You know, mom, how about if I have a friend over and we stay home and watch a movie and eat hot dogs?
So far Ten is looking a whole lot easier than Nine.

Pizza and video games were a big hit ith my boys for many years.
Yes! I've been loving ten (mostly). Have fun!
I used to say do you want the money or the party? The answer would always be the money lol
Kids aren't stupid.
Boys are pretty easy that way. Girls? Not so much.
Oh yeah...even my 9 year old this year decided he wanted to bring 3 friends roller skating and out for pizza with his family. Easy-peasy and fairly cheap. Glad he knew what he wanted--many happy returns to your double-digit boy!
My soon to be 10 year old daughter was thinking similar things this year as well - she wanted to invite a few girls over for a sleep over and pizza and crafts. So easy!
My husband and I were talking the other day about how in 7.5 years she'll be graduating high school and heading off to college (she's in 5th grade). The last 10 years have gone by in a blink :(
Hot dogs and a movie -how awesome is that? It was the double digit mark that shaved the guest list by more than half for us too -hope it's fun!
To all the Moms out there looking to impress the other moms, look to your kids, they don't want the pressure either. Old Mom. Momma
Holuy freaken' yeah! This kid sounds like he's been hanging at my house! Congrats on a mature little dude...
Yes, they do get "cooler". But I bet he'd still like to go tubing.
I completely hear ya!!! My son turned 10 in Oct. He had 2 friends over, a Nerf gun war, pizza and Mt Dew, stayed up until 2 in the morning and couldn't have been happier! I love that, though, things are getting more complex his needs seem more simple. Hope you and yours are well!!! : )
"Hallefreakinglujah" Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!
Ten - such a good age, really. Most authentic self. Enjoy.
